Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 16:25:25 GMT

ST. LOUIS - It didn't take long to get a sweat going on Wednesday, and tomorrow will be even hotter with triple digits for the first time this year. "Triple digits are pretty dangerous, like that will keep us inside," said Claire Field, parent, and parkgoer.According to the Missouri Health Department, 23 Missourians died last year from heat-related illnesses, and the smoke from Canadian wildfires is not helping either. There are around 50 cooling centers in the St. Louis area, which can be found here. "Yeah, it is a little bit harder to breathe during the heat of the day and the index, and the last few days we've had the smoke," said Sean Aden, a parkgoer and parent. The most vulnerable groups are children and senior citizens, but everyone starts to feel the effects of heat once the temperature hit the 90s.  2nd Missouri man sentenced in death of woman who was caged, dismembered Field was at the park with her two young children. "You need hats, you need a ...

Yelich lifts Brewers over reeling Mets after Cohen’s press conference

Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 16:25:25 GMT

NEW YORK (AP) — Christian Yelich had three hits and two RBIs, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-2 win over the New York Mets on Wednesday night, hours after Mets owner Steve Cohen held a press conference in which he preached patience but said his struggling team is running out of time to get back into the playoff race. The $355 million Mets are 36-44 and have lost 17 of 23. They were 8 1/2 games out of the last NL wild-card spot entering Wednesday. New York hasn’t won a series since sweeping Philadelphia from May 30 through June 1.“All is not lost yet,” Cohen said. “But it’s getting late.”A night after a 7-2 win that Cohen called “…a crisp game, probably one of the best games we’ve played all year,” the Mets went 0 for 11 with runners on base and stranded seven.Manager Buck Showalter, whose job was deemed safe for the rest of the season by Cohen, was ejected after Yelich’s two-run single in the eighth inning, which came after Joey Wiemer was awarded first base when he was hit by a...

Wembanyama’s height no longer a mystery: 7 feet, 3 1/2 inches is official, Spurs say

Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 16:25:25 GMT

Victor Wembanyama has grown a little. Or not, depending on perspective. The official height for the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft, the San Antonio Spurs said Wednesday, is 7 feet, 3-1/2 inches — and that was measured without shoes, per NBA guidelines. That’s a half-inch taller than Wembanyama said he was back in October, when he was in Las Vegas for a pair of exhibition games. (His official height then was 2.21 meters, he said, and he’s now nearly 2.23 meters.) Which makes sense, given that he was 18 then, has turned 19 since and it’s reasonable to think he might still have a bit of growing left.He has been listed by various sites as anywhere between 7-foot-2 and 7-foot-5, in part because of how he towers over other 7-footers when photographed standing with them. The NBA listed him at 7-foot-4 in the league’s guide for last week’s draft, but that was not based off any official measurement. The 7-3.5 figure puts Wembanyama on pace to be the NBA’s second-tallest player this...
